Server issue (update)

The login issue affecting some students should now be resolved for most users. It was caused by an intermittent outage at my database provider following one of its recent server updates.

Although the provider has not yet fully resolved the underlying issue, I have introduced mitigations that should allow the majority of students to log in normally.

Implied grade boundaries and mastery scores

Jackie Tyler kindly suggested that it would be useful to show both the 2017–2023 and 2024 onwards implied grade boundaries. I agreed, and have now added both sets to the grade-boundary PDFs.

The 2024 onwards boundaries are currently based on unverified community estimates. However, they are still likely to reflect the current grade boundaries more accurately than the official 2017–2023 boundaries.

I am therefore likely to change the main mastery display in the coming days so that students see their 2024 onwards equivalent mastery score as the default value, with the 2017–2023 equivalent retained for reference. This should give a better indication of how their performance relates to the current TMUA grade boundaries.

Today’s technical issue distracted me from the pleasures of writing the new article on modulo arithmetic, so unfortunately it will not be finished until tomorrow. 😂
