About
Hello! I'm Joe Zhou, a full-time professional maths tutor with over twenty years of experience. I read Maths at Imperial College London, graduating with a first-class degree and ranked first in my final year. I've worked with students from 11+ through A-Level Maths, Further Maths, and university maths — though these days I mostly focus on A-Level Maths, Further Maths, and TMUA preparation.
Not everybody can afford private tuition. The aim of this site is to provide some genuinely useful free tools and original content to students aspiring to ace the TMUA and apply to top UK universities.
The exam simulator lets you practise under realistic computer-based exam conditions. You can pause an attempt and resume later if you don't have time to sit the full paper in one go. Signing up is optional but recommended — it lets the site track your progress over time, for you to see. :)
My best piece of advice — and I'll admit this one is a bit unorthodox: start your preparation early, during the summer holiday after your GCSEs. Who on earth wants to be doing TMUA practice the summer after GCSEs? Well… if you'd like to give yourself an unfair advantage, you might!
The TMUA is based only on AS-level pure mathematics, and the prerequisites can be picked up fairly quickly. If you start a full year ahead of the competition, you buy yourself time to do lots and lots and lots of practice. It won't guarantee success — but you can be successful in the TMUA only if you have done lots of practice!?!
I'm actively working on the site. Coming soon:
- Original mock papers
- A section on logic (the trickiest part of Paper 2 for most students)
- A section on the minimum post-GCSE topics you need for TMUA
Suggestions, wishlist items, or mistake reports — all very welcome. Email me at jzmaths@hotmail.com.
