Privacy Policy
Effective Date: 13/07/2026
JZMaths is owned and operated by Joe Zhou, a UK-based sole trader. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and what rights you have under UK GDPR.
1. Information We Collect
- Account Information: Email address, first name, and last name (used to generate your avatar initials)
- Usage Data: Paper attempts, answers, flagged questions, time spent, and scores
- Technical Data: Sign-in session cookies, local storage for paper-in-progress state, and basic server logs (including IP address) kept by our hosting provider
- Download Analytics: When you download a past paper, mark scheme, mock paper, or worksheet, we record which file was downloaded, the time, and an approximate country of origin derived from your IP address. We do not store the IP address itself. We also set a first-party identifier (see Cookies) so we can estimate how many different people download our free resources
2. How We Use Your Information
- Provide the exam simulator and track your progress
- Let you resume papers you have paused or left open
- Respond to support requests and account questions
- Send service-related emails (for example, password resets)
- Understand which of our free resources are most useful and roughly how many people download them
We do not send marketing emails. We do not use your data for advertising or profiling.
3. Information Sharing
We share data only with service providers that help us run the site:
- Supabase: Database hosting and authentication
- Vercel: Website hosting, content delivery, and the approximate-country lookup used for download analytics
- Namecheap: Domain registration
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers, data brokers, or any other third parties.
4. Data Storage
Your data is stored on Supabase servers in the European Union. We retain your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your data from active systems within 30 days; backups are fully purged within 90 days. Anonymous sessions (for users who start a paper without signing up) are deleted automatically after 90 days of inactivity.
5. Your Rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you
- Correct any data that is wrong
- Delete your account and your data
- Receive your data in a machine-readable format
- Object to how we process your data
- Withdraw any consent you have given
To exercise any of these rights, email jzmaths@hotmail.com. We will respond within one month.
6. Cookies
Strictly necessary (required for the site to work):
- Keeping you signed in
- Saving your progress on papers in progress
Download analytics:
- A single first-party cookie named "jz_vid", containing a randomly generated identifier. We use it only to estimate how many different people download our free resources, so we can see which papers and worksheets are most useful. It contains no personal information beyond a random number, is never shared with anyone, and is never used for advertising or for tracking you across other websites.
We do not use any third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. The download-analytics cookie is not required to use the site; if you would prefer we did not set it, you can block cookies for this site in your browser settings.
7. Children's Privacy
This service is intended for users aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you are aged 13–17, we recommend you discuss signing up with a parent or guardian.
8. International Transfers
The personal data we store — your account, your usage data, and download-analytics records — is held on Supabase servers within the European Union. Our hosting and content-delivery provider (Vercel) may process technical request data, such as your IP address, at server locations outside the UK and EU in order to serve the site and derive the approximate country used for download analytics; we do not store that technical data ourselves.
9. Security
We use reasonable security measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and the security features provided by Supabase. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be signposted on the site. The Effective Date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent change.
